Wow—what a month August has been! Full of crochet inspiration, colourful projects, surprise goodies, and a little time to soak up summer sunshine before Emily heads back to school. If you’re looking for new crochet ideas, stitch inspiration, or a peek at the Yarnsmiths Summer Meadow DK range, you’re in the right place.
🧵 Granny Square Day – 15th August 2025
One of my absolute favourite events of the crochet calendar—Granny Square Day! It’s a worldwide celebration where makers share their unique squares on Instagram, and together, we create a giant virtual blanket.
This year, I shared a few of my own squares and loved piecing them together into a virtual granny square blanket. The creativity, colours, and textures across the community were just incredible—it always feels like one big crochet hug online.
Did you join in Granny Square Day this year? I’d love to know what granny squares you made and what colours you reached for—are you more of a traditionalist with classic shades, or do you prefer bold, modern palettes?
🥤 Crochet Meets Diet Coke – A Surprise Collaboration
Something totally unexpected happened last month that I totally fotgot to share!—Diet Coke sent me an amazing crochet-inspired gift box! Inside was:
- A crochet hook
- A hook case
- 2 yarns
- A tote bag
- Two cans of Diet Coke
- And best of all—the pattern for a crochet Coke bag!
I couldn’t resist making my version in classic Coca-Cola red—and honestly, it’s the cutest thing ever. Practical, fun, and such a unique project idea. Very clever and designed by the lovely Tom Daley!
Why not make your very own – HERE is the link to the pattern!
It got me wondering—have you ever crocheted a bag or accessory inspired by your favourite brand, food, or drink? If not, what would yours be?
🌿 Puff Stitch Hexagons with Yarnsmiths Summer Meadow DK
If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll know that August has been all about puff stitch hexagons for me. I’ve been using the stunning Yarnsmiths Summer Meadow DK yarn, kindly gifted by Wool Warehouse—and oh my, the colours are gorgeous! Perfect for crochet blankets, motifs, and anything that needs a little extra texture.
Here’s the dreamy Summer Meadow colour palette:
- ❄️ Snow Drop – crisp white
- 🌸 Hellebore – soft lavender/pink
- 🌾 Pampas Grass – warm beige
- 🧡 Crocosmia – bold orange
- 🌼 Buttercup – bright yellow
- 💛 Primrose – soft pastel yellow
- 🌱 Sage – calming green
- 🍃 Nettle – muted fresh green
- 🌿 Mint – pale pastel green
- 💙 Nigella – gentle blue
- 🔹 Forget Me Not – light sky blue
- 💜 Pansy – soft mauve
- 🌷 Fox Glove – dusky pink/purple
- 🌺 Hollyhock – warm pink
- 🌸 Cosmos – pretty bright pink
This yarn is soft, versatile, and the shades blend beautifully together—like a meadow in bloom. Puff stitches make the hexagons look extra squishy and textured, which I adore. I cant wait to show you more of these hexagons too!

Which shade from the Summer Meadow range would you choose first if you were starting a new project? And do you enjoy working with puff stitches and hexagons, or are you more of a granny square fan?
🌞 Sunshine, Family & Slow Crochet
August also gave me a chance to pause—spending time with the family, enjoying sunshine, and making memories before the back-to-school routine begins. Sometimes it’s lovely to put down the hook (just for a little while!) and recharge.
Of course, I couldn’t resist sneaking a project into my bag for our holiday to Menorca! I tend to take smaller, more portable projects with me when I’m away, so I picked up and revisited these knitted socks I started April 2024, not a crochet hook was in sight the whole holiday! Do you take crochet with you on holiday too? If so, what’s your favourite “travel project”?
💕 Wrapping Up August
So that’s my August crochet round-up—Granny Square Day celebrations, a surprise collaboration with Diet Coke, puff stitch hexagons with the Yarnsmiths Summer Meadow range, and a little summer break with family.
It’s been a colourful, joyful month of crochet, and I can’t wait to see what September brings. I’d love to hear from you in the comments below—whether it’s your favourite Summer Meadow shade, your Granny Square Day project, or what crochet you pack for holidays, let’s keep the conversation going.
Happy Crocheting,
Helen x
