🌈 August Crochet Catch-Up 🧶✨

How is it the end of August already?! This month seems to have absolutely flown by, but looking back there has actually been SO much going on! New designs, a pattern release, gorgeous new yarns and hooks, Granny Square Day and even a rather unexpected crochet collaboration! 🍎😂

Here’s a little look back at August…

🌈 Granny Square Day!

First up was Granny Square Day and wow, it was fab! 🥰

I absolutely loved seeing Instagram filled with granny squares for the day and, of course, I couldn’t resist joining in and sharing some of my own designs too.

There is just something about a granny square that I will always love! So much colour and so many possibilities from one little square! 🧶🌈

🩷🌈 The Happy Place Blanket Begins!

This month also saw the beginning of something very special – my Happy Place Blanket! 🌈🧶

This October will mark 10 years since I first picked up a crochet hook, and I really wanted to create something colourful to celebrate. Crochet has become my happy place over those 10 years, so the name just seemed perfect. 🥹🩷

A huge thank you to Scheepjes for sending me a gorgeous basket full of Catona in all the rainbow shades I needed to bring my idea to life.

After a bit of swatching, yes, I actually swatched! 😂 I decided on moss stitch squares worked in the round.

But I’m not making just one blanket… I’m making TWO versions side by side! One using Scheepjes Catona and another using Yarnsmiths Create DK.

The squares are worked double stranded and I’m gradually mixing two shades together to blend from one colour into the next. We’ve started with the reds and pinks and will eventually travel through the whole rainbow. ❤️🩷🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

It’s going to be a long-term project, but I’m already loving watching those little squares grow and I’m really looking forward to taking you along on the journey!

🩷 Pastel Pulse Festival Blanket

Another exciting moment this month was seeing my Pastel Pulse Festival Blanket released over on Hobbii! 🥳🧶

Made using Hobbii Amigo DK, the design combines traditional and solid granny squares in gorgeous pastel shades, all joined using the join-as-you-go method.

If join as you go is new to you, the pattern also includes step-by-step photographs to help you along the way.

I just love how all those colours come together! 🌈🩷

🧶 Lots of New Stylecraft Yarn!

There have been some gorgeous new releases from Stylecraft this month too! 😍

First up is the new Naturals Pure Wool range and I was incredibly lucky to receive all 32 shades. Just look at all those colours!

I’ve already started using some of them for a cowl and the wool is honestly sublime to work with. I’m really enjoying it and already have lots of other ideas going around in my head. 🧶

I also received the brand-new Soft & Cosy in Pine Green (5705). It’s super chunky, incredibly soft and SO squishy! 💚

And finally, Life Wash in Ginger Wash (5953), which has a lovely subtle stonewashed effect. 🤎

Lots of gorgeous new yarn to play with!

✨ My New KnitPro Vybe Hooks

I was also very kindly sent a set of the new KnitPro Vybe crochet hooks to try this month.

And after actually using them… I’m really impressed! 🧶✨

My usual go-to hooks are Clover Amour and my Pedro’s Plaques hooks, so they had some tough competition. The Vybe handles are a different shape to the Clover hooks and took a little getting used to, but the hook itself is SO smooth, it honestly glides through the yarn like butter!

They definitely haven’t disappointed and I will absolutely keep using them.

🍎 A Pinch-Me Pink Lady® Moment!

And this was definitely one of those pinch-me moments… I got to work with Pink Lady®! 🍎🩷

As part of their Find Your Fizz campaign, I was challenged to make a little crochet outfit for a Pink Lady® apple.

Of course, I couldn’t just make any outfit… I had to make my apple match me! 😂❤️🩷

It was completely different from my usual crochet work and such a fun campaign to be involved with.

✨ Looking Ahead

And somehow that’s August!

From Granny Square Day and starting my Happy Place Blanket, to releasing the Pastel Pulse Festival Blanket, trying gorgeous new yarns and hooks and even crocheting an outfit for an apple… it’s certainly been a colourful month! 😂🌈🧶

I’m really excited to see where the Happy Place Blanket takes me next as we move through all those rainbow shades, and as always, there are plenty of other things happening behind the scenes too.
